Where to Go After Your Ryuso Experience?
Amazing Parks in Central Okinawa Just Minutes Away
After enjoying a Ryuso experience in Okinawa,
“Where should we go next?”
“Is there somewhere the kids can play?”
“We want to take photos somewhere that feels really Okinawan.”
If that sounds like you, we highly recommend the large parks located within about 10 minutes of OKINAWA KIMONO家 in central Okinawa. Especially for military families living near Camp Foster, Kadena Air Base, and other bases in central Okinawa, these parks are easy to visit for a relaxing family afternoon after your Ryuso experience.
Okinawa Parks Are on a Completely Different Scale
Many visitors are surprised by how massive Okinawa’s parks are compared to parks in mainland Japan.
Central Okinawa in particular is home to huge playground parks with giant athletic-style equipment that feels almost like a paid theme park — but many are completely free! (yeah!)
These parks are also extremely popular with local Okinawan families.
Among them, Nakagusuku Park is considered one of the best large parks in central Okinawa.
There are play areas for toddlers who are just learning to walk, as well as giant climbing nets, bouncing play zones, and huge slides that even older kids — and adults — get excited about.
Today, we’d like to introduce a few parks that are perfect to visit after your Ryuso experience.
If You Have Kids, Nakagusuku Park Is Amazing
Located only about 3 minutes from OKINAWA KIMONO家 by car, Nakagusuku Park is one of the most popular family parks in central Okinawa.
The playground equipment here is incredible. There are giant net climbing structures, bouncing play equipment, and long slides that make the whole park feel like an outdoor adventure playground. There’s also a safe toddler area for younger children, making it comfortable even for families with babies and small kids.
Because there are play zones for different age groups, it’s especially popular with families traveling with multiple children.
After your Ryuso experience,
“Let the kids run around a little.”
“Take a break from driving and enjoy nature.”
This park is perfect for that.
Actually One of the Best Photo Spots Too — Okinawa Comprehensive Athletic Park.
While the playgrounds and bicycle rentals are popular, this park is also surprisingly beautiful for photography.
Right now, seasonal flowers like lilies are blooming throughout the park. Because the park is enormous, there are also many quiet areas filled with Okinawan tropical plants and natural scenery.
Huge tropical trees,
ponds and streams,
sunlight filtering through peaceful walking paths.
Sometimes it hardly feels like a public park at all. The natural scenery is beautiful, yet the park is also very well maintained. Unlike crowded tourist areas, there are many peaceful spots where you can relax and take photos at your own pace. Ryuso outfits also match beautifully with the tropical Okinawan scenery here, creating soft and natural Okinawa-style photos.
Enjoy Central Okinawa Beyond the Tourist Spots
The Kitanakagusuku area is not only home to the World Heritage Site Nakagusuku Castle Ruins, but also many beautiful parks filled with nature. After your Ryuso experience, you can spend time at a park, let the kids play, or enjoy taking photos surrounded by Okinawa’s peaceful scenery. One of the best parts of central Okinawa is being able to experience a slower, more local side of Okinawa beyond the crowded tourist attractions. We especially recommend this area for families with children, military families living in Okinawa, and visitors who want to experience more than just sightseeing. If you are planning a Ryuso experience in central Okinawa, we hope you’ll also enjoy exploring the parks around Kitanakagusuku.
