Recently, we received a very special request from a couple planning to experience Ryusou with professional hair and makeup and a photographer for three hours.
There was one little secret behind the plan.
He wanted to propose!!!!!
We were absolutely delighted! The fact that he had chosen Okinawan traditional attire for such an important milestone in their lives meant so much to us. And being invited to help create a moment they would remember forever was an honor.
Of course, we wanted to make it perfect.
Planning the Perfect Surprise
As soon as we heard his idea, our team began discussing the details.
Where would be the perfect place?
What would be the best timing?
How could we create a natural situation that would leave her completely unsuspecting?
We talked through different possibilities, considered the surroundings, and put together a proposal for the day, carefully planning the location, timing, and sequence of events.
There was a lot to think about, but that was part of the fun. We wanted everything to feel natural to the couple while giving him the perfect opportunity to surprise her.
And then, the big day arrived.
Okinawa Was on Our Side
This year brought plenty of typhoons to Okinawa, so we had been keeping a close eye on the weather.
But on the day of the proposal, the sky was beautifully clear. The wind was gentle, and the weather could hardly have been better.
It felt as though Okinawa itself was cheering them on.
Behind the scenes, our staff were nervous too. We tried our best to keep straight faces and act as naturally as possible. After all, if we gave anything away, the surprise could be spoiled!
And we could only imagine how nervous he must have been.
Meanwhile, our professional hair and makeup artist was ready to make the day extra special.
Choosing the Perfect Ryusou
The couple selected their Ryusou, and the colors came together beautifully. Every detail mattered, from choosing the outfits to making sure everything was perfectly arranged.
Our dressing staff helped them get ready, just as we always do, with care and attention to detail.
Once everyone was ready, it was time to set off.
The group included the photographer, two members of the OKINAWA KIMONO家 team, an interpreter, and the hair and makeup artist, who would accompany us to make any necessary touch-ups throughout the shoot.
It was quite a team for one very important secret!
A Beautiful Couple in the Quiet Streets of Kitanakagusuku
As we made our way through the quiet lanes of Kitanakagusuku, the couple looked absolutely radiant in their Ryusou.
They brought such elegance and brightness to the traditional Okinawan village that it almost felt as though a fashion shoot was taking place in the middle of an ordinary day.
Our destination was a beautiful lane beside the stone walls near Nakamura House, a place where Okinawa’s traditional scenery creates a wonderfully timeless atmosphere.
And there, it was time to put our plan into action.
The Moment He Turned Around
We had arranged a simple but cinematic scene.
The couple stood with their backs to each other. Then, at the right moment, they would turn around to face one another.
She turned.
And there he was.
Down on one knee, holding a ring.
For a moment, it felt like watching a scene from a romantic film. The beautiful stone walls, the soft Okinawan light, and the couple dressed in Ryusou made the moment almost unreal.
And her reaction?
She had absolutely no idea.
Her surprise turned into pure joy. She was thrilled, kissed him, and said yes!
The happiness on their faces said everything. There was no need to direct that moment or ask them to smile. It was real, spontaneous, and completely theirs.
And our photographer was there to capture it all.
The sparkle in that moment was impossible to miss.
From Nervous Anticipation to Pure Happiness
We had planned the proposal carefully, but nothing could replace the genuine emotion of the moment itself.
Once the proposal was over, we could finally breathe a sigh of relief!
We continued the photo session, capturing the couple before and after the proposal, preserving not only the big moment but also the emotions surrounding it.
With the surprise successfully behind us and plenty of beautiful photographs to remember it by, we returned to OKINAWA KIMONO家.
The couple changed out of their Ryusou and left with happy smiles, carrying memories of a day that had turned out even more special than an ordinary sightseeing experience.
Our team was thrilled, too. Seeing everything come together and knowing we had helped create such a meaningful memory made all the planning worthwhile.
